LPGA - Cognizant Founders Cup

Jin Young Ko came from behind at the Founders Cup to win in a playoff over Minjee Lee. It was her 3rd time winning the event and her second win of 2023 (HSBC Women's World Championship). After birdieing 18 to get into the playoff, Ko needed only one extra hole to cap the comeback and secured the victory with a par.

Minjee Lee started the day with a three-shot lead which disappeared after a double bogey on the 6th hole. Lee recovered by making four birdies in her next 12 holes and forcing a playoff with Jin Young Ko. The three-putt on the playoff hole was a bitter end to an otherwise great week for Minjee.

Ashleigh Buhai finished third, Hae Ran Ryu fourth and Atthaya Thitikul, Aditi Ashok and Angel Yin sharing fifth place.

LIV Golf - Tulsa

Dustin Johnson won for the first time in 2023 at the LIV Tulsa event. Johnson started the day with a two-shot lead but fell back with a triple bogey on the 10th hole. Cam Smith and Brenden Grace both caught DJ by the end of the round to make it a 3-way playoff. Johnson’s birdie on the first playoff hole was enough to win the $4 million first prize.

Cam Smith shot an impressive Sunday 61 to finish in a tie at the top and make the playoff. For Smith, it was his best finish of the year, putting him in good form for next week’s PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

The Stingers, captained by South African Louis Oosthuizen, won the team title at Tulsa.

PGA Tour - Byron Nelson

Jason Day completed his comeback with a win at the Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch. Day has been on a consistent run of good performances (6 top 10s in 2023 alone), but his last win was the 2018 Wells Fargo. After overcoming injuries and a dip in performance, Day is again a winner on the PGA Tour.

Day closed with a Sunday 62 to beat Austin Eckroat and Si Woo Kim by one shot. Day’s win on Mother’s Day was emotional, as his mother passed away last year from lung cancer.

C.T. Pan also tied for the low round on Sunday with a 62 and jumped to a solo fourth finish.

It was birdie galore at TPC Craig Ranch, with seven players finishing at 20 under or better.

DP World Tour - Soudal Open

Simon Forsström wins in Belgium for his first victory on the European Tour. The Swedish golfer started Sunday with a one-shot lead and held on to beat fellow Swede Jens Dantorp by 1. Forsström started his back nine with a double bogey and, by the 14th hole, trailed by one, but he steadied the ship and made three birdies in his last 5.

Forsström’s story is quite incredible as he had been through European Qualifying School 11 times in order to get where he is today.

Ryder Cup hopeful Thorbjorn Olesen finished third and moved to seventh in the Europen points standing for Marco Simone.

Belium’s local favorite, Thomas Detry, had a solid first three days but faltered on Sunday with a 73 to miss a chance to win his home open.
