PGA Tour - World Wide Technology Championship
The PGA Tour swings into Los Cabos, Mexico, this week. The tournament venue is noteworthy; for the first time, competitors will challenge themselves on Tiger Woods' designed course, El Cardonal at Diamante. Last year's champion, Russell Henley, isn't teeing it up this year to defend.
One of the intriguing storylines is Cameron Young making his first appearance since the playoffs. Young’s last finish was a T15 at the BMW Championship, and he is the highest-ranked player active at 17th in the world.
Sahith Theegala comes into the event with momentum, having clinched his first victory at the Fortinet Championship in September and finished T19 at the Zozo Championship two weeks ago.
Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg looks to continue his success in the fall season, having a second-place finish at the Sanderson and a T13 at the Shriners. Other notable players include Lucas Glover, Emiliano Grillo, and Chris Kirk.
LPGA and Japan LPGA - TOTO Japan Classic
The TOTO Japan Classic is set to start at the Taiheiyo Club - Minori Course in Japan. With a rich heritage, this unique tournament stands out as a co-sanctioned event between the LPGA and the LPGA of Japan.
This year, the field includes 43 LPGA members and 35 members from the Japan LPGA, providing a blend of international and local talent. Gemma Dryburgh, the defending champion, returns to the course with her recent notable T6 finish at the Maybank Championship. Dryburgh currently sits at 60th in the Race to CME season-long points list and will need a couple of good finishes to close the year to hold on for a spot in the season finale.
Hyo-Joo Kim is the highest-ranked player in the field and is coming off a win at The Ascendant LPGA and finishing T16 at the BMW Ladies.
Jiyai Shin is a three-time winner of the Japan Classic, and she won in 2020 when the tournament was hosted at the Minori Course.
The local talent is equally strong, with Nasa Hataoka, Miyuu Yamashita, and Ayaka Furue as the three top-ranked Japanese players in the field. Hataoka and Furue have played primarily on the LPGA tour, while Yamashita has been a force on the Japan LPGA tour.
Asian Tour - China Open
The China Open tees off this week at the Hidden Grace Golf Club in Shenzhen, marking the first time since 2019 that international players have returned to compete. Among the top players to watch, Andy Ogletree recently claimed victory in the International Series England, while Jaco Ahlers secured a win at the Taiwan Masters.
