LIV Jeddah
The last individual event of the season for the 2023 LIV Golf season is in Jeddah this week. Along with the tournament purse of $20 million, the individual season-long champion will receive $18 million, with second and third getting $8 and $4 million.
Currently, Cam Smith leads the individual rankings and controls his destiny, with Talor Gooch and Bryson DeChambeau following behind. For Dechambeau in third place, he will need a win and some help from Cam Smith to capture the individual title.
Last year Brooks Koepka took the win in Jeddah and arrives this year after being the only LIV player in the Ryder Cup.
While huge prize money is up for grabs in Saudi Arabia, the headlines leading into the event are focused on the OWGR’s decision not to grant world ranking points for LIV tournaments. The decision centered around OWGR’s concern for the lack of player turnover in the league and the concurrent team competition impacting the individual tournament competition. For the foreseeable future, LIV players will continue to drop in the OWGR rankings, and the decision makes the pathway to the majors for those not already exempt that much more difficult.
PGA Tour - Shriners Children's Open
The PGA Tour fall season continues in Las Vegas at TPC Summerlin. Tom Kim is the defending champion and also the highest-rank player in the field this year.
Lexi Thompson is joining the men in this year’s field via a sponsor’s invite and will be the first female to compete on the PGA Tour since Brittany Lincicome in 2018. While Lexi has struggled most of this season, she is coming off two top-ten finishes and will certainly gather a lot of attention in her start.
DP World Tour - Open de España
Jon Rahm is back to defend his title at the Spanish Open in Madrid. A repeat for Rahm would also be his fourth Spanish Open title and pass Seve Ballesteros, who won the event three times in his career.
As was the case last year, Rahm is the heavy favorite again but faces a stronger field than last year, with Justin Rose joining after the Ryder Cup victory in Rome.
LPGA - Buick LPGA Shanghai
The LPGA tour makes its return to China for the Buick LPGA Shanghai. The event was last held in 2019, and the winner was Danielle Kang. Only 81 players are on the field for the no-cut event, headlined by world number 1 Lilia Vu.
PGA Championship winner Ruoning Yin is the highest-ranked Chinese player in the field and is coming off a tie for 8th at the Asian Games two weeks ago.
For the LPGA, the Shanghai stop is the first of their Asian swing, which includes Korea, Malaysia, and Japan.
