Solheim Cup

The 18th playing of the Solheim Cup starts on Friday in Finca Cortesin in Spain.

When comparing the world rankings of the players, the US side has the stronger team, but they face a difficult task heading to European soil to take on a team that has won the last two editions.

On the US side, the team is captained by Stacy Lewis and led by Nelly Korda, who holds a solid 5-2-1 record in prior Solheim Cups. The highest-ranked player on the US team is multiple major winner Lilia Vu, who also happens to be one of five rookies on the team. Her win at the most recent major at Walton Heath was impressive, and she should be a stalwart for US teams to come.

Suzann Pettersen captains the European team and includes a Swede-heavy lineup, with five of the twelve players coming from Sweden. France’s Celine Boutier is the highest-ranked player on the Euro side and holds a 5-1-1 record in her Solheim career. Leona Maguire makes her return after putting up an outstanding effort for the European side in Ohio in 2021, collecting 4.5 points.

The past experience also favors the European team, with four players making their fifth or more start in a Solheim Cup. Anna Nordqvist leads the way, making her eighth appearance for the Euro team, and also has a role as an assistant captain this year. For the US team, the player with the most experience, Lexi Thompson, making her sixth start, might also be the biggest question mark. Her form hasn't been great this year, and how reliable she can be in the team format is unclear. With victories in the last two cups and many experienced players, the European side will be a tough opponent for the American team making their way to Andalucia.

The action starts Friday morning with foursomes followed by the afternoon four-ball session.

LIV Chicago

After nearly a month off LIV golf is back for it's twelfth event of the season at Rich Harvest Farms near Chicago. This will be the last stop before heading to Jeddah, then Miami for the team finale.

Brooks Koepka will be making his final start before he jumps over to Rome as the only LIV player in the Ryder Cup.

Last year's event in Chicago saw Cameron Smith take a 3-shot victory, and he will certainly be the favorite coming in again this year.
