LIV Greenbrier
LIV returns to the US after two events in Europe. This week’s host is The Old White course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Greenbrier has previously hosted PGA Tour events, the Ryder Cup (1979) and the Solheim Cup (1994).
Some of the LIV players in the field have had success at the Greenbrier previously. Danny Lee, Kevin Na, and Joaquin Niemann are all former winners of the Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour. Joaquin Niemann is the most recent winner at the course in 2019, winning by six strokes at 21 under.
With the Major season finished on the Men’s side, the LIV season has four more regular events and a team final in Miami. Currently, Talor Gooch sits atop the individual season standings, followed by Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed.
PGA Tour - Wyndham Championship
The PGA Tour heads to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Wyndham Championship. The Wyndham marks the last regular season event for the 2022-2023 PGA Tour Season, with the top 70 players qualifying for the FedEx Cup Playoffs starting next week at the St. Jude Championship.
Currently, some of the big names that are outside the top 70 cut line include Shane Lowry (76th), Justin Thomas (79th), Adam Scott (81st), and Joel Dahmen (82nd). For these players to earn a spot in the playoffs, they will need a top 5 finish and possibly some help from those who are just inside the top 70 currently.
The defending champion, Tom Kim, is not in the field and will be resting before the playoffs start next week.
JT Poston, last week’s runner-up, won the event in 2019 and looks to be in good form. Poston sits solidly at 49th in the Season long points race, and a high finish this week could help his push to the Tour Championship.
Ladies European Tour and LPGA - Women's Scottish Open
After the major last week at the Evian, the LPGA and Ladies European Tour host the Scottish Open as a co-sanctioned event. This year, the event is held at Dundonald Links, a Kyle Phillips-designed course in southwest Scotland that has previously hosted both the Men’s and Women’s Scottish Open.
The field is strong as the tournament fills the gap between the Evian last week and the AIG Women’s Open next week at Walton Heath. The field is headlined by last week’s champion Celine Boutier who moved to her highest position in the Rolex Rankings at number 4.
The defending champion is Ayaka Furue, who tore apart Dundonald Links last year with a record 21-under finish to win by three. Furue has had a solid 2023 season showing remarkable consistency with 8 top 10s, and only one missed cut in 16 events but no wins so far. She will be a favorite heading into this week and next week at Walton Heath.
